7 Businesses you can start with ZERO Capital in Nigeria

When statistics were taken of what accounts for why many aspiring entrepreneurs never kickstarted their dreams of having a business and reasons were collated, lack of fund or capital topped the list.

7 Businesses you can start with ZERO Capital in Nigeria
7 Businesses you can start with ZERO Capital in Nigeria

Lack of capital has hindered many brilliant ideas from getting off the ground. Perhaps you’ve always wanted to start a business or you’re tired of working for someone else, and you’d love the flexibility and responsibility of running your own company but you do not have what it takes monetarily or the financial capacity to get your ideas off the ground, first, it is important to understand that you are not alone. The next thing you need to know is that, while you’re waiting to start the business of your dream, there are a number of other businesses you can do to make ends meet, or even raise funds for the business of your dreams, which actually requires zero capital. There are businesses that you can start virtually free (and those that aren’t completely free are quite low-cost, requiring a very negligible amount of money). They don’t require expensive training or degrees, fancy equipment, or lots of materials, or space. Let us look at a few of them. You might just find one that suits you well.

  1. Skill Selling

Think about what you can do or what skills you possess, whether innate or acquired through learning. More often than not, any skills you have gained or developed has the potential to make you money, provided you know what to do with them. Anything you know more than others automatically gains earning potential if you can do well to package it in such a way that people want to pay for it. What is it that you can do very well? Do not treat it as unimportant because if you look well enough, you will find people who are in need of what you have and are willing to pay for it.

Let me give you a very good example that drives home this point. Some time ago, I needed to do an important voiceover for an online course but could not get to the studio, and could not get a professional, due to the covid-19 lockdown in our state. Interestingly enough, I invite a close relative to come over to help – I wanted to see what we would come up with. So, we started the recording and when our test output was heard, her voice was far better than the professional’s and it was just fitted as if she has been doing this for a long time. Consequently, she became my preferred candidate for voiceovers and she even got some referrals – and like play, she started earning money! She could never have imagined that she has been sitting on a gold mine all along!

  1. Blogging

While blogging is an idea that has been around for a very long time, starting a blog and monetizing it is always an option to consider if you have some flair for writing or some specific areas of interest or expertise, and you are really serious about starting a no-cost business. There are so many options you have when it comes to making money from your blog. Monetization channels include affiliate partnerships, producing e-books, offering online courses, and webinars. It’s worth mentioning, however, that monetizing your blog will work best when you choose a subject that you are actually passionate about and personally invested in, to blog about. Merely wanting to make money isn’t enough reason to start a blog – and starting one does not guarantee that you will automatically make money.

  1. Work as a Virtual Assistant

Many businesses, individuals, and organizations are now making use of virtual assistants to help them with tasks such as creating content, scheduling meetings, answering emails, proofreading website content, responding to social media comments, writing newsletters, managing Facebook pages, and running Facebook Ads, etc. If you are detail-oriented, organized, and can handle multiple projects at once, becoming a virtual assistant is a good way to start a thriving and viable business without spending a dime.

  1. Website designing

I love website design and other IT related services for one thing. For the most part, all that’s required to get the job done is your knowledge – your brain. Most of these kinds of jobs do not require you to make any huge expenses. All you really need for this is a good eye and practice. The time that many people spend on useless WhatsApp chats can be used to do free online design courses, and with constant practice, you will soon arrive in a place where you can begin to make money with the new skills gained. When you get a hand on it, inform your friends, advertise on social media and before you know what is happening, money has started flowing in.

  1. Real Estate Agency

I have seen many people make money from this job over and over again! And I know people who have actually started this real estate agency business from scratch – with ZERO capital – and have been able to raise a major, prominent, and highly profitable venture out of it. If you are the kind of person who can communicate well and you know how to build human networks and relationships, then real estate is something you can start with ZERO capital and succeed in. You can make millions of Naira within a very short time (I know because many people have done it), and all it really takes is to keep your ears and your eyes opened for property information all around. You must also be ready to make friends or be friendly, with property owners. If you are given your first few opportunities to manage certain properties for your first few sets of clients, you can launch a very formidable and successful real estate company from there. And guess what, real estate jobs actually operate in percentages and for the most part, any business that operates percentages is usually a wealth-generating business. If you got a buyer for a property worth N200 million, you can end up a millionaire in just a day – without any serious expense on your part! Imagine that what you take is 5%, you would have made N10 million in just one day – now imagine that you get just 2 or 3 of such deals per month, you are not a poor person my brother.

So, you don’t need to invest any money before you start your real estate company, you simply need to be ready to go to places to see and check properties out, and you need to be as persuasive and convincing as possible. Know what is available and how much, know who wants to buy and how much they are willing to pay, and become a mediator between the buyer and the seller – and you can be swimming in millions in a matter of months!

  1. Become a tutor or a coach

Do you have extensive knowledge and experience and would like to pass them on to others? Are you fluent in foreign languages, good at maths or physics? Become a teacher! You can start working successfully as a tutor and perhaps a director of a professional training center. You can also network with owners of schools and training centers to incorporate your skills, knowledge, and expertise into their curriculum and that way, you can have a quick way to get to teach people what you know and make money from it.

  1. Computer, Laptop, and Smart Phone Repairs

Presently, we are living in a world in which most people you meet have a smart mobile phone and a laptop – a huge opportunity to make money. These devices develop faults often but not many people are into repairs. With a few month’s training and study, you will be ready to start repairing gadgets for people. One rule of thumb I usually give to people when it comes to this kind of job role is that you need to have a trainer who will serve as a mentor to you and to whom you can refer difficult jobs that your experience can not handle yet. It will be a mistake to think you want to know or learn EVERYTHING in engineering before you can set up your repair business – you probably won’t set up anything until Jesus comes. This is because those who have been learning it for years are yet to learn ALL there is to learn. This is where your mentor, and/or being part of a strong network of engineers will help you a lot.
