7 Top Tech careers a youth of today should consider

In recent years, unemployment has become a global issue facing young people. Although many young people earn a one form of higher education or the other, and many even proceed to obtaining advanced degrees, many of them still struggle to find jobs in their chosen industries. There are many reasons for the rise in unemployment, including a lack of jobs and a growing population.

7 Top Tech career youth should consider

Despite these facts, one field that has brought hope to many youths of today is the field of computer and technology. Over the last few decades, the world has witnessed revolutionary transformation and turn-around in the way things are done. This was largely through the technological advancement that was witnessed over time in every facet of human endeavor. The future and the world we live in now is solely at the mercy of Technology. The truth of the matter is that Technology has played a key role in the turnaround of events in this century. This means Technology needs to be embraced more and we need to leverage on the power of Tech as a tool to advance our lives in future both at an individual and collective level.

Today, my goal is to show you a few Tech careers that any youth of today should consider – with the confidence that the issues of unemployment he or she is facing will become a forgone conclusion. Let’s look at a few of them.

  1. Graphics Design

Graphic designers play a very great role in the digital world because they create amazing visuals seen every day and every minute, all over the world. These people create entertainment, advertising, news and features in all forms, including print publications and digital media such as game machines, television, web browsers, as well as social platforms. Graphic designers are design professionals that create visual concepts, using computer software or by hand, to communicate ideas that inspire, inform, as well as captivate consumers. They are also referred to as graphic artists or communication designers. To become a well-paid graphics designer, you neither need a university degree nor too much of western education. All you need is a mix of good sense, ability to imagine and conceptualize events, and a bit of a training in graphics design. Generally, starting a Graphics design business is much less complicated compared to many other careers (businesses) out there. It’s something you can start with some beginner skills while still learning through the process. And If you’re a student or someone needing a part time hustle, running a Graphics Design business could be the perfect hustle for you.

  1. Web design and Development

Web Development refers to the work involved in developing a website. Web development process includes web design, web content development, client-side/server-side scripting and network security configuration, among other tasks.  Learning web design and development can benefit you in many ways. Web based skills like HTML, CSS, PHP and MySQL are some of the first things to consider learning. With seriousness and structured learning/practice approach, all of these can all be learned within a year or less. You can learn the basics of these skills within few days or week through structured training, and then develop your skill through continuous practice.

Web development is a very valuable skill that can create a lifetime opportunity for your career development. This is easily seen from the rising demands for website developers across board. Having a website is one of the key marketing and social practices for businesses nowadays. Hence, website development has actually been considered as a means of generating high income swiftly.

  1. Social Media Marketing

Social media marketing takes advantage of social networking to help a company increase brand exposure and broaden customer reach. The goal is to create content compelling enough that users will like, not just to connect or buy, but also share the information about the business or company with their social networks. With 90% of people between 18-29 years old using social media, and a third of millennials using social media as a preferred method of communicating with brands and businesses, companies are reexamining their traditional marketing strategies. Engagement with customers, media and staff through social media is a top priority for most companies. Organizations want to know how to use social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and blogging to build their brand and gain market share. This increased focus often means hiring new, specialized talent to lead innovation in this space. The truth of the matter is, becoming a social media marketing expert absolutely has nothing to do with what you studied in school, or your level of education.

  1. Software Development

The creative mind behind a computer program is a software developer. Some software developers create applications, while others build systems. They usually work alongside computer programmers. Software developers typically have a bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, or a computer-related field. A degree in mathematics is acceptable in some cases. Given today’s online coding boot camps and other unconventional learning systems, a traditional academic education is not always a requirement.

  1. Computer Hardware Engineering

Computer Hardware Engineers design, build, and repair the physical circuitry that makes computers work. And while they also do some levels of software, tech companies basically need and engage hardware professionals to handle the physical side of things when it has to do with computers. Computer hardware engineers research, design, develop, and test computer systems and components such as processors, circuit boards, memory devices, networks, and routers. These engineers discover new directions in computer hardware, which generate rapid advances in computer technology. Hardware engineers are well-paid, and the position offers a hands-on approach that’s attractive to many people.

  1. Network Administration

A network administrator is responsible for keeping an organization’s computer network up-to-date and operating as intended. Any company or organization that uses multiple computers or software platforms needs a network admin to coordinate and connect the different systems. Network administrators tend to focus on how computers interact with one another. This often includes configuring an organization’s local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN) and other elements of a network system. Network admins need to explore and solve problems logically and consistently. Understanding how systems work together and the chain reaction one issue can have is crucial. Organizations of all kinds rely on their networks and internet systems to conduct business. That’s why network administrators are needed in nearly every industry.

  1. Mobile Application Development

Mobile app development is the creation of software intended to run on mobile devices and optimized to take advantage of those products’ unique features and hardware. If there’s one evergreen job title for software developers that just keeps getting greener, it’s mobile app development. This IT role usually refers to somebody who can design, build and/or maintain mobile applications for either Apple’s iOS or the Android platform. There are other mobile OS choices – including Mobile Windows and BlackBerry, etc. Due to the increasing popularity of smartphones and tablets, mobile application development is an increasingly popular medium of software creation. In fact, mobile apps have become an essential element of most businesses. This prolific and growing industry has attracted businesses from every corner of the marketplace as consumers detach themselves from desktop computing and turn to their mobile devices.
