Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Political Career

Let’s go back to the time when he began to develop influence within the Nigerian government. Ahmed Tinubu joined the SDP (Social Democratic Party) in 1992.He joined the people’s front fraction due to his loyalty to and love of politics. The faction’s head was Shehu Musa Yar’Adua. After the November 17 coup d’état in Nigeria in 1993, which was conducted by Sani Abacha, the defense minister, he left the country. In an interview, Tinubu described his voyage into exile, saying, “I escaped into the Benin Republic on a motorcycle while disguised with a large turban and babanriga. The clothing was a gift from an old Hausa friend. In truth, Kudirat Abiola was unaware that I was the one when I showed up to her. I briefed her and provided her some facts. At 1 a.m in the morning, I departed. I continued to travel to Badagry while I was in the Benin Republic to transport people and to organize and coordinate the fight with those who were already there. We organized a team to transport NADECO employees across. It was an extremely difficult moment. I can’t forget about the young men that participated in the struggle, like Segun Maiyegun. I would sneak back after meetings I had with them in Benin. After returning from exile in 1998, he quickly rose to fame and was elected governor of Lagos state in May 1999. He is renowned around the world for founding 37 LGAs in the state. He had eight successful years in office as governor!

What else? He made multiple attempts to ensure the APC candidates won the 2015 elections because of his animosity for the PDP. The northerners greatly admire him as a result of this.

He is thought to control the majority of the political influence in the majority of Western states in Nigeria due to the power he once held during his two terms as governor of Lagos State. His holdings include the Oriental Hotel, a cutting-edge hotel with a prime location on Victoria Island in Lagos State. Other properties and assets that he owns are dispersed throughout the nation and abroad, including TVC Television and Radio, Lekki Concession Company, Ikeja Shopping Mall, Renaissance Hotel, The Nation Newspapers, Radio Continental, and Apapa Amusement Park.
