Overview

The purpose of this business plan is to raise N10,000,000 for the development of an state-of-the-art logistics and haulage business while showcasing the expected financials and operations over the next three years. PATILAD LOGISTICS is a new medium- and long-haul dry van trucking business based in Lagos Nigeria and founded by veteran entrepreneur Dayo Adetiloye. We are committed, honest and quality focused. Our LOGISTICS will serve businesses in Lagos (eventually expanding to include Abuja, Kano, Katsina, Port Harcourt, and Warri) with freight hauling and logistics management services. The business will develop a reputation for its on-time and accurate service as well as sophisticated Web and software functionality, allowing clients to align their business with PATILAD LOGISTICS’ services and scheduling automatically. The business will be managed by Dayo Adetiloye, CEO, and a Chief Operating Officer.

The Company

PATILAD LOGISTICS can be launched for about N10,000,000, largely with the investment of Dayo Adetiloye, and with some investment by investing partners. The business will be launched with three 18-wheeler trucks and will expand its operations to utilize eight 18-wheelers by the end of its third year, using auto loans to finance this expansion. Gross margins will be around 60%, allowing for significant profit by the end of the third year as the business scales up.

Beyond three years, the business will seek to expand to additional bases of operation in the Southwest and to add trucks with refrigerated and temperature-controlled trailers. The business will be positioned for sale to a national freight-hauling service seeking to expand to, or add operations in, the entire nation.

Objectives

PATILAD LOGISTICS intends to serve businesses in the Lagos (eventually expanding to include Abuja, Kano, Katsina, Port Harcourt, and Warri) with truck-based distribution services.

Over the first three years of operations, PATILAD LOGISTICS will seek to meet the following objectives:

  • Establish bases in Abuja, Kano, Katsina, Port Harcourt, and Warri
  • Purchase 8 18-wheeler trucks with dry van trailers
  • Hire 10 full-time truck drivers
  • Achieve strong annual revenue based on 1.2 million kilometres of hauling in the third year.
  • To develop a sustainable start-up business, contributing to increased employment of community residents.

PATILAD LOGISTICS will simplify distribution of goods for national businesses, becoming their partner in operating efficiently and reliably. PATILAD LOGISTICS will use management of logistics, on-time, accurate deliveries from destination to destination, and partnerships with distribution centres and warehousing businesses to achieve its goals.

  2. Setting delivery schedules that can be met (i.e. setting the right expectations)
  3. Hiring and retaining reliable, safe drivers

  5.  Growing and maintaining a referral network of manufacturers and firms that use our service.

PATILAD LOGISTICS was established with the aim of maximizing profits in the Trucking company industry. We want to compete favorably with the leading LOGISTICS companies in Nigeria which is why we have but in place a competent quality assurance team that will ensure that every service rendered meet and even surpass our customers’ expectations.

We will work hard to ensure that PATILAD LOGISTICS LLC is not just accepted in Lagos Nigeria but in the entire nation. We will also target other cities in West Africa where we intend opening our branches. Our services are listed below;

  1. Pick-up and delivery of goods with a minimum per-delivery weight of 20,000 lbs from and to locations in its geographic range by 18-wheeler trucks hauling dry van trailers
  2. Both “less than a truck load” and “truck load” services
  • Online tracking information detailing the location of all GPS-tagged trucks and the status of deliveries, including expected arrival times for pick-up or delivery
  1. Phone support for all customer questions, delivery changes, and scheduling
  2. Preferred client services including online accounts, regular schedules of shipping, or linking of client order information directly to PATILAD LOGISTICS’ scheduling software to allow for seamless logistics Performing automotive wheel alignments

In the future, PATILAD LOGISTICS will add the following services:

  • Temperature-controlled shipping to expand the range of customers Timely can appeal to.

Trucks are operated by qualified and well-trained drivers with spotless records. Drivers are safety trained and re-tested for knowledge of laws as they change. A dedicated suite of software and communication systems will allow for the logistical management mentioned above.

PATILAD LOGISTICS will establish a competitive edge through its dogged focus on on-time deliveries for its specific target market. Software systems, communication systems, operational choices and marketing materials will all be oriented around this goal. By making customers more assured of on-time delivery with PATILAD LOGISTICS than with competitors, they will be more likely to use the business overall, as they can never be sure when a few hours can make an incredible difference to their potential revenues or expenses.

Management Team

Dayo Adetiloye, CEO, will manage the strategic direction, sales and marketing of PATILAD LOGISTICS. He developed experience in all of these areas through work in his previous warehousing business, which he launched and successfully sold after fifteen years of operation.

The Chief Operating Officer position will be filled by a partner who will be granted up to 10% of shares in the business after meeting certain milestones. Additional shares will be granted if the COO contributes capital to the business. The COO will manage operations, finances, human resources, and procurement.

The business will require additional personnel including an administrator/dispatch center operator and a sales/marketing support associate. These individuals will be managed by the COO and the CEO, respectively. Three part-time truck drivers will be hired initially.

Makinde Temitope (B. Agric., MBA, and PMP): He has over 15 years’ experience in business management, business start-up dynamics, financial management of business and overall business growth and development. He is an alumnus of Enterprise Development Centre (EDC) of the Lagos Business School (LBS), Pan Atlantic University (PAU). He is our business development strategist and a strategic partner.

PATILAD LOGISTICS seeks N10 million in long-term financing to cover start-up costs, equipment, building expenses, and working capital.

Funding for the launch of the business is provided primarily by equity from the partners and investors.

Our market survey and research shows that PATILAD LOGISTICS holds the promise of reaching positive cash flow in its 7th month of operation. The advantage of this, is the provision it makes for accelerated repayment of its loan obligations, as well as for dividends to be paid to the owners.

Revenue is expected to amount to N12,984,326 and profit N3,592,736 in our first year of operation.
