FARM INVESTMENT YOU CAN VENTURE INTO IN NIGERIA

FARM INVESTMENT YOU CAN VENTURE INTO IN NIGERIA

With the present situation of the country, if there is any sector that contributes more to the economy, it is the agricultural sector. Although the sector may not contribute a high percentage to the country’s overall Gross Domestic Product (GDP), the sector remains one of the most thriving in the country, especially as it serves as the only saving grace for the Nigerian citizen in a time like this. Are you a lover of agribusiness in search of what farm investment you can venture into?

Trust me, with proper planning and basic farming knowledge; you will make headway in this economy. In this article, I will share farm investments you can venture into in Nigeria, which will not require huge capital to start. You can either own the investment or partner with an investment company. The following are the lucrative farm investments you can venture into in Nigeria.

1.      Pig Farming

Pig farming is a branch of animal husbandry that deals with the raising and breeding of domestic pigs as livestock. Also known as hog farming, pig farming is one of the most lucrative and profitable farm investments anyone can venture into in Nigeria. The ability of pigs to give birth quite fast and having as many as over 20 piglets in a year is enough to encourage anyone to venture into the business. Pigs produce more meat as compared to other domestic livestock, and the return is very high.

2.      Apiculture (Honey Bee Farming)

The rise in demand for honey and its products have made honey bee farming a lucrative business and a profitable farm investment you can venture into in Nigeria. Honey is known as one of the oldest natural sweeteners that can be used in place of sugar, and honey bees are known to be producers of lots of honey. With little space and little cash, the business is good to go.

3.      Poultry Farming

One of the most lucrative forms of farm businesses that one can invest in is Poultry farming. Poultry farming is a form of farming where domesticated birds such as chickens, ducks, turkeys, etc., are raised for the sole aim of providing meat for the populace or providing eggs. Almost everyone now prefers white meat to red meat, which has made poultry farming a very lucrative business that is worth your investment. Come rain, come shine, the market is always there, especially during festive periods.

4.      Aquaculture (Fish Farming)

The demand for fish is high these days, especially catfish and tilapia fish. For instance, there are spots where people get fish barbecue either made of catfish or tilapia fish which has made the demand for these fishes to be on the high side. It can be made available as fresh fish or as smoked fish.

This is one farm investment that many eyes have not been opened to, and it is very lucrative. Interestingly, the fish can be grown in a small fish farm or even just at the back of your house, and some companies who are into fish farming need partnership or sponsorship. Whichever way you choose, fish farming is an investment you will not regret getting into. It is a safe and profitable enterprise to venture into.

  1. Cassava Farming

Talk of some other countries and cassava farming may not have a headway but here, in Nigeria where a day cannot pass by without an average Nigerian drinking garri or taking eba, pupuru or fufu, Cassava Farming is lucrative enough for anyone to invest into. Beyond the popularly known food products that can be gotten from cassava, there are other by-products of cassava such as animal feed, commercial caramel, etc. Cassava farmers are and will continue to generate high revenues through cassava farming. Can’t you see that this is worth investing in?

  1. Rice Farming

Rice farming is one lucrative farm investment that one can venture into in Nigeria especially in the Northern part. Rice remains one of the staples that is mostly consumed in Nigeria and it is capable of generating more income for its farmers than any other cash crop. Unfortunately, despite the high rate of consumption, Nigeria still suffers the ability to meet up the demand in the market. As such, investing in rice farming will be a good choice of investment.

  1. Heliciculture (Snail Farming)

If there is any neglected yet lucrative farm business that one can invest in, it is snail farming. Snails are good for human consumption and cosmetic use, which make a good agribusiness you can invest in. The fact that it is a neglected farm business makes it a better shott for you to invest in it. This is because it will grant you the opportunity to make your money since snails are expensive and usually scarce during the dry season.

8.      Tomato Farming

Tomato farming business is a thriving business in Nigeria, especially in the North. Hence, the need for investors, especially in the south. To start a tomato farm does not require much stress. A small piece of land at the back of your house can be made into a nursery to grow tomatoes. The importance of tomato production in Nigeria cannot be overemphasized. It is used in cooking stews, soups, salads, and almost every food. A larger percentage of Nigerian meals is not complete without tomatoes. Hence, the need for investors in that field.
