SAMPLE OF BUSINESS PROPOSAL IN NIGERIA

A business proposal is a document written to a prospective client, so as to fund a business idea, get a business deal or obtain a job. It could mean an act of convincing an organization to buy your product or invest in your business. A business proposal also states how the seller wants to achieve the needs of the buyer, which will in return favour the seller’s products or services. This letter is aimed at educating the buyer that the seller is capable of satisfying their needs.

A business proposal can be classified into two (2), which are;

  1. Solicited Business Proposal
  2. Unsolicited Business Proposal

Solicited Business Proposal

A solicited business proposal is written when buyers demand the products or services of the sellers.  This is based on the request of the buyer; this is contained in a request for proposal, request for quotation, and invitation for bid

Unsolicited Business Proposal

This occurs when an individual identifies an organization’s need and tries to present it to an organization with aim of adding more value to an organization.

Qualities Of a Good Business Proposal Letter

  1. A good business proposal letter must direct and address the relevant issues about the organization. It should not be bourgeois, rather clearly stated.
  2. It must give a full and detailed explanation of the subject matter and how it will affect or help to solve the organization’s problem(s).
  3. It must be neat and look presentable
  4. The amount you will need for the project/to finance your business idea must be clearly stated.

How to Write Business Proposal Letter in Nigeria

Business proposal letter is written by a seller to the buyer, it is therefore, should be in the format below;

Title Page

This should be the first page of your proposal letter and should contain your name, your company’s name or business name, the date you are submitting the letter and the name of your client. These are very important information that should be on your front page.

Table of Contents

This should follow your title page. Information in this table of contents will help you to locate information quickly in your business proposal letter.

Executive Summary

Here, you try to sell your idea to your prospective client, because if they accept your business idea, there must be something they will gain too. 

Define your goal and Objectives

In stating your objective, you need to state what will make you achieve the stated objectives. You need to be very clear, straightforward, and specific about your objectives. You can say, if this loan is given to us, we will increase our productivity level by 60% or we will have additional 3 machines to increase our production.

Statement of the problem

You must articulate those problems the organization is facing and ensure you have possible solutions to them. When organizations notice this in your business proposal letter, it attracts them, and then there is high likelihood that you will get the deal.

Methodology

In your business proposal letter, you must state how you want to provide a solution to the problems stated above, and also state how you will use the fund if given to you. The client wants to know how judiciously you can use the money they want to invest in your business.  

Qualifications

 Here, you should state what you can do and let your client know how well your qualifications and certifications suit the problem you want to solve. Your qualifications and certifications must with the job at hand.

Time line and Schedule

 Here, you must state the time the projected will be completed. Also, state the factors that may likely hinder the work to be ready at the set time.

Highlight what differentiate you form others

Your business proposal must provide the answer to the company’s problem, showing how your valuable asset can be used to provide the solution to the company’s problem and what makes you the best for the job. Here, you highlight the business ideas that separate you from others.

Cost

Draft out a payment schedule to your client.

Close the letter and provide contact details

In this section, you thank your recipient for their consideration of the proposal and tell them to contact you if they have any questions regarding the letter. End the letter with professional closing, like “Sincerely” or “Regards”, follow by a comma. Type your name a few lines below.

When to use proposal letters

 A proposal letter can be used to write small business projects, such as making a request for a loan, given managers or director’s new marketing plans to boost their sales.

Our company was established 10 years ago and since then we have become a force to reckon with. We have attached a comprehensive outline of the exact steps we are going to take if this contract is awarded to us in the form of an audio-visual presentation. We believe that our experience in handling similar projects and our human and technical resources equip us sufficiently for its completion. We charge # 1,000,000 for the entire operation inclusive of all costs. We can discuss the plan in more details if you choose to proceed and, and can adjust the budget based on needs and recommendations.

If you would like to continue with our proposal, please send us an email so we can begin discussing and planning the next steps right away. I will follow up with you through email.
