10 Lucrative Business You Can Do As A Student

Gone are the days when students are only told to face their studies and that alone. Nowadays, there are a lot of businesses that students can do by the side whether as full time students or part time students. As long as you’re committed and willing to make money, you can always joggle between your academics and the business. Considering the fact that most graduates with salary jobs also have businesses by the side, then nothing should stop you as a student to have one or two also. Most times, people who started their businesses from undergraduate days do not have to stay at home, looking for jobs after service year, because they just continue with their businesses while also looking for a better offer.

As a student, you do not always have to expect your parents or guardians to credit your accounts, even if they are entitled to. It is not a bad thing for you to also make your own money even before you graduate. There are three major excuses students give when they’re advised to run a business alongside their academics, “I don’t have the money to start”, “I don’t have time”, and “What’s the point?” You will not be in class for the whole day, and you definitely won’t be reading the whole time, so why not make use of that luxury of time to make some cool cash for yourself? As for money, most of the businesses you’ll start as a student are small businesses that do not require much capital to start, so once you have about 10 to 15,000, you should be able to start.

The point of starting a business while in school is that it makes you prepared for working life after school. If you can find your way around the business while in school, it will be much easier to do it when you face the business wholly. You’re also setting up your customer base already while in school, as they will be your major assets when you finish school and want to go into a bigger business. Your business gives you the experience you need for life right from school. You would have known what running a business entails, the risks you need to avoid and the ones you need to take, how to manage customers need and satisfaction, and the likes. Starting a business in school is not all about the money, there are so many benefits attached to it, that you will be grateful for when you need them in the future.

Now that you know you do not need to have millions in your account to start a business in school, and you can learn how to manage your time between school work and the business, below are some business ideas you can venture into while in school:

  1. Typing and Editing business

If you have a computer or even a good android phone, you can start a typing business. Most students have assignments, projects, thesis, and the likes, to type, and you can help them with it while charging them for a fee. All you need is their handwritten assignments and you can type it after school work, or when you’re free anytime. If you do not have good typing skills, you can install Mavis Beacon on your laptop and start practicing on it. You can charge between N50 to N100 per page for each job, and you print it out at N20 per page. If you can type around 20 pages per day, you can be earning N1,600 daily and N4,800 to N9,600 weekly.

  1. Recharge card and data business

Recharge card business is a very lucrative business in Nigeria. There are two ways to it; you can deal in bulk recharge card printing or sell as a retailer. You can also do it directly from the internet by registering on some platforms like RAGP (Recharge and Get Paid) or Clubkonnect, among others, and you can become a retailer for recharge card and data selling. You can start this business with as low N5,000 and earn up to N1,000 per day if you have a good customer base.

  1. Barbing salon business

This is one of the lucrative businesses you can start as a student. You can start by attaching yourself to an already established barbing salon, and if they accept you, you can always go there at your spare time and earn little cash per day. If you have the skills, you can make your way through, although, it requires stress and time. If you have money and the skills, you can start on your own by buying your clipper and other necessary equipment. Getting a space shouldn’t be a problem, you can liaise with your school authority or start from your room.

  1. Freelance writing

If you have a flair for writing, you shouldn’t just use it as a hobby, as you can earn a lot from it. Many bloggers do not have time to write by themselves, and they give it out to freelance writers. This doesn’t require that you have any certificate in writing or English Language. You can also register on platforms like Fiverr or ODesk to get jobs directly.

  1. Graphics Design

If you have the skills, this is a great way to make money as a side business in school. Graphics designers are in demand, especially now that most businesses are going online and they need to get their new brand logos, flyers and the likes. You can use weekends or evening periods to do the jobs. You do not need money to start, as people often pay a deposit fee and that is what you use to get the materials you need. And once you have the materials, you can keep them and use for subsequent jobs.
