Amazon Affiliate Marketing in Nigeria

In this new dispensation of technological and electronic advancement, the world has seemingly been reduced to a global village. This is because social media and other internet platforms have breached the communication gap between distant countries. The outcome of this includes better information dissemination, better learning opportunities, employment opportunities (remote work), and most importantly: marketing.

To get started with this digital life, all one needs is a smartphone or a computer system with a proper internet connection. These devices are relatively affordable, and this is evident in the number of persons that occupy the social media space.

As such, as a manufacturer that intends to break even financially, or seeks to expand the coverage of your product, then affiliate marketing is for you. On the other hand, as an internet user, you could take advantage of your social media or online space popularity to make some income for yourself.

I’m pretty sure you are eager to find out “how”. Follow me as I take you through the journey of affiliating with Amazon as a case study.

What is Affiliate Marketing?

Affiliate marketing is a business pattern whereby one earns commissions by promoting the product or service of a company and building your team of partners. In most cases, the most basic idea of affiliate marketing is simply getting paid for products you buy and cannot do without.

Before one proceeds to become an affiliate of a particular company, the individual must be sure that this company provides goods, and render services that are in high demand. You also need to develop your team and partners who may or may not use these products but have found value in dealing with the company.

Just like every other valid source of income, affiliate marketing is not an avenue to get rich quickly. It is also important to note that affiliate marketing is a lucrative business when there is an interplay of due diligence, commitment, and hard work.

What do I mean?

In affiliate marketing, you begin from a stage when you are on your own, to the point where you start getting commissions from your first set of partners, and finally to the stage where you’ve gained so many partners, till it becoming a passive source of income.

Consider this

Martha is an undergraduate seeking a side hustle to meet some of her needs. She’s introduced to network marketing. She gets started by purchasing her starter pack. Despite the challenges of convincing people to partner with her, she keeps on trying till she successfully gets her first, second, and third level affiliates.

At this point, for Martha, affiliate marketing has metamorphosed from the initial struggle to a reasonable source of passive income. This is the story of many successful affiliates. This could also be your story affiliating with Amazon if you follow me through this article.

Types of Affiliation

There are various classes of those involved in affiliate marketing. They include

  • Those Fully Involved

These are persons who use the products of the company they are promoting. They are the visible face of the company, and therefore risk their reputation in an event when the consumers do not derive maximum utility of the product.

  • The Un-involved

This category of affiliates have no idea of the product or service their company offers, and hence cannot recommend this product to others. This type of affiliation revolves around the running of ads and campaigns for products. They are not really interested in building a team.

  • The Related

This refers to affiliates who do not use these products, but have an influence on the media space, and therefore utilize this to market these products. Their work is similar to social media brand influencers. The issue with this type of affiliating lies in the dangers of marketing a product without proof of personal experience.

Amazon

Amazon is owned by Jeff Bezos; an American engineer and entrepreneur. It started on a small scale where his parents invested About $250000. In mid-1995, The company was fully opened and recognized as the World Wide Web’s largest collection of books. Within the first 2 months of its opening, the total sales amounted to $20,000/week cutting across 45 countries.

Presently, Amazon products are not restricted to just books but has been diversified to DVDs, software, electronics, skincare/beauty products, groceries, musical instruments, kitchen equipment, and a wide range of products one could think of.

Amazon Affiliation

Amazon affiliation is a system operated by website owners; who embed Amazon links and ads on their website, and therefore get commissions when their traffic click on this link to purchase products on “amazon.com”.

Amazon pays $100 and above depending on the number of persons that click on your link to purchase products.  Like other affiliating platforms, it is a slow and steady process of commitment, this is because commissions you earn are spelled out for various product categories.

Steps to Becoming an Affiliate

The first requirement to become an associate is to have a blog or website. An already existing blog or website with relatively high traffic would be ideal.

  • Sign up from the Amazon homepage for associates.
  • Input your account details, your choice ID, and website address
  • Discuss your website briefly and its major source of traffic.
  • Determine your payment method
  • Create your link.

The above steps are very direct, but to avoid errors, I’ll throw more light on creating your link.

  • Once you successfully log into your account, your products are associated with your account. Proceed to ” product linking” and select the required link.
  • Find your Amazon Standard Identification Number (ASIN). Amazon uses this number to identify products. You could find this ASIN number by searching the product catalog or within the product information section. When the ASIN is done, click “Go” as soon as you’ve verified the product you intend to market.
  • At this point, when you click the” Get link button”, your affiliate link will automatically be copied to your clipboard.

From this point, it’s left for you the employ the attributes of consistency on your website to keep your traffic going, and also increase your chances of Amazon referrals.

The final reward is payment. As an associate, you receive your payment either by cheque to your registered address, or through deposits using the National Electronic Funds Transfer (NEFT).

Another way of receiving payment is through gift cards. Note that this payment comes exactly 60 days after the month you are being paid for.

Conclusion

Affiliating with Amazon is a very lucrative venture and does not require you to get a starter pack. However, to ensure a steady flow of income, you must be consistent with whatever brings traffic to your website.
